This workshop provides local control options that can be customized to fit community needs. These policy options can be utilized either pre-emptively or in response to state policies that loosen restrictions on marijuana but leave local control open to the jurisdictions. In addition to specific policy options, this workshop provides capacity building for coalitions considering local control policies.
Learning Objectives
Participants in this workshop will learn:
- Vital considerations for coalition to discuss prior to pursuing local control policy options;
- Local government policy processes where marijuana policy options are determined;
- Specific local control policies that are grounded in public health and safety.
Speaker Bio
Dana Stevens has been a community organizer, policy advocate and champion for marginalized populations her entire adult life. Her passion for community begins with empowering local resident to amplify their voice for healthy and safe neighborhoods. Dana has been with Community Action, Service & Advocacy since 2007 and currently serves as the Executive Director. Dana has been a part of SAM since it launched in 2013 and currently leads SAM efforts to support local control measures to prevent marijuana normalization and commercialization. She holds a bachelor’s degree from UCSD in Urban Studies, a certificate in Nonprofit Management from University of San Diego and a Master’s in Public Administration from SDSU.
