Description
In this session, Dr. Nik will cover the basics of psychosis and mania.  He will discuss what makes bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and schizoaffective disorder different, and what makes them similar.  We’ll discuss how long cannabis-induced symptoms can persist after abstinence before we consider the youth to have schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.  We’ll discuss the difference between mood stabilizers and antipsychotics, how they work, and their side effects.  We’ll also talk about how long you should stay on these medications even after symptoms subside.  At the end of this talk, the participant will feel more comfortable with the basics of diagnosis, treatment, and the line between cannabis-induced symptoms and development of the formal disorders.
