Description
In a one hour webinar Dr. Silver will describe new research on half a million California adolescents which showed cannabis use to be associated with doubling of risk for psychotic and bipolar disorders as well as increased risk for depression and anxiety. She will discuss how this research adds to existing knowledge on this issue and the debate on whether cannabis use is causal.

Speaker Bio
Pediatrician, public health researcher and advocate, Lynn Silver is Senior Advisor at the Public Health Institute (PHI) and Clinical Professor at University of California San Francisco. She directs PHI’s Prevention Policy Group, including Getting it Right from the Start, a project of PHI founded in 2017 to support adoption of cannabis policies to better protect youth, public health and equity. Silver is an active researcher on cannabis regulatory policy and health outcomes, as well as other areas of disease prevention. She chaired the 2024 California High Potency Cannabis Scientific Committee report and served on the state’s Proposition 64 Advisory Group. She has worked widely on health policy as a researcher, educator, university dean, government official, and consumer advocate. She received her MD and MPH degrees and pediatric training from the Johns Hopkins University.
