Curious about how to conduct a community scan and apply its findings to create policy change? This interactive workshop will guide participants through the process of planning, implementing, and analyzing a community scan, with a specific focus on vape shops and THC-derived products. 

Learning Objectives

  • Learn how to design and carry out a community scan tailored to your local context,
  • Explore effective methods for data analysis and translating findings into actionable strategies for policy change, education, or outreach, and
  • Hear how presenters applied the SPF model to develop their community scan approach for the upcoming year.
  • Participants will also review key insights and lessons learned from a recent vape shop assessment, leaving with practical tools and strategies to enhance their prevention efforts.

Speaker Bio
Leela: Saileela Nittala, MPH, is a Prevention Specialist III at OMNI Youth Services, where she serves as a direct liaison for two middle schools and also leads as the Project Coordinator for the Stand Strong Coalition. With a master’s in public health from the University of Illinois, Springfield, Saileela brings a strong foundation in prevention science and a deep commitment to youth well-being.

Sarah: Sarah Powills, MPH, is a Prevention Specialist II with OMNI and Program Coordinator with Link Together Coalition in Buffalo Grove, Illinois. Her position focuses on working with schools and communities for prevention initiatives, primarily related to alcohol, cannabis, and drug take back. Sarah has over 15 years of experience working in social services and public health settings. She is passionate about making positive impacts in her community and continuing to expand her knowledge in the field of prevention work.
