Welcome to National Marijuana Facts Week – Laura Stack to testify in DEA hearing

Welcome to National Marijuana Facts Week, July 4-10, 2026! NMFW is an annual, week-long, national health observance created in 2021 by Johnny’s Ambassadors Youth THC Prevention to raise public awareness about the dangers of today’s high potency marijuana and THC products on addiction, adolescent brain development, mental illnesses, and suicidality.

On Thursday, July 9 starting at 11:45 eastern, I have been asked to testify at hearings conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for the U.S. Department of Justice regarding the proposed rescheduling of ALL recreational marijuana (not medical, which was already rescheduled) from a Schedule 1 drug under the Controlled Substances Act to a Schedule III substance. I will be a witness for Ken Finn MD, who with other allies such as Smart Approaches to Marijuana, are challenging this action. I will be examined by our attorneys against this action and cross-examined by the government. I don’t normally agree to do this sort of thing, but I felt compelled to say yes to speak for all parents whose children, like mine, have been harmed by its use.

I will share our stories and the research with passion and conviction. I will speak with POWER supported by SCIENCE. I go with your love and support behind me, so I am not nervous. I am determined. I promise I will do everything in my power to keep this from happening. The hearing is not livestreamed or available for public viewing, but it will be recorded for the official record. I will update you when it’s over.

With gratitude and love,

Laura
